The 3rd Annual Touchdown Auto Rotation Competition date is set for June 23, 2013.The 2nd Annual Touchdown Auto Rotation Competition was held on Sunday, June 24 at the McMinnville, OR airport (KMMV).
Eleven helicopter pilots competed in the event with Isaac Etherington, a JTH flight instructor, taking first place. Magnus Knape, also a JTH flight instructor, took a close second with Brian Humble, a private pilot taking third. Scoring was based on technique, accuracy and slide distance. Trimble flew with all pilots.
The judges for the event were Mike Moffett, Life Flight pilot for Air Methods, Jim Griffin, training captain for Erickson Sky Crane and Randy Danielson, pilot and former student of JTH.
“We hoped for wind, but got rain”, Jerry Trimble said. Even though the weather did not cooperate for the event, there were 11 pilots competing in the event. Several came from Leading Edge in Bend, OR with the rest of the field being made up of current or former JTH students.
The Coast Guard flew the HH65 Dolphin from North Bend, OR, finishing off the day with a SAR demonstration. Jerry Trimble Helicopters gave $10 helicopter rides, with the Lions Club serving up pancakes as a fund raiser for their charity programs.

Blow the Rust Off Special Offer
We have a special “Blow the Rust Off” package for touchdown autorotation practice. This package includes two lessons lasting .9 each. The first lesson you will practice normal, hovering, and 180° autos with one of our instructors. The next lesson you will fly with Jerry Trimble and work on touchdown autorotations. The package also includes 1.0 hour of ground training. Retail price for 1.8 hours of dual in the R-22 plus one hour of ground training would normally be $447.60 .
